Dutch-born, Rock 'n Roll bred, Joost Scheltes has been captivated by music since he was barely old enough to walk, hammering out tunes on a beat-up toy piano until it cracked. But it wasn’t long before Ray Charles and Jerry Lee Lewis ignited his dream of becoming the frontman of a Rock 'n Roll band. At fifteen, his passion shifted to the electric guitar. Influenced by loud, distorted guitar music, he embraced the Blues as the foundation for mastering these genres—a path his former guitar teacher suggested, and one he never strayed from. After exploring countless Blues artists, it was Freddie King and Stevie Ray Vaughan who kept his fire burning. As he navigated the highs and lows, playing with different bands, producing, and writing music, one question kept haunting him: “What kind of man am I growing into?” Crafting his sound one gritty riff at a time, it’s finally time to showcase his struggle growing up to become a man. in 2024 he released his first single, Seventeen, under the name van Joost. With this release, he’s not just a player anymore—he’s the frontman, fulfilling the promise he made to himself all those years ago.
